Preparing for Our Dallas to D.C. Adventure with a 2-Year-Old: What to Consider

2-year-old ready for Dallas to D.C. adventure

I’m embarking on a thrilling journey, trading the vast skies of Dallas for the historical aura of D.C. It’s not just any trip though; it’s the first with my two-year-old son and my wife. And boy, planning a trip with a toddler feels like a mission in itself!

You see, my little man is quite the connoisseur of his own tastes. He knows what he likes, and he likes what he knows. As any parent will tell you, that’s code for “he’s super picky with his food.” And as we tread this new territory, I’m also threading the delicate balance of ensuring my wife has the time of her life. Especially since November in D.C. is a whole different climate game. I might have lived there eons ago, but returning after so long, it feels like I’m seeing it anew.

The heart of this trip? Reunions. My mother and sister reside in D.C., and it’s been years since I’ve seen them. This November coincides with my son’s birthday, making it all the more special. He gets to meet his grandma and aunt. Plus, my wife gets to meet my mother and sister for the very first time. Trust me, the anticipation is tangible. Though, a little word to the wise, my son is currently in a “stranger danger” phase, so grandma and aunt might have to warm up to him slowly.

Another highlight? My wife is thrilled to walk down memory lane with me, seeing the places I called home and work. Nostalgia will be the theme of the day.

Now, here’s where the modern age comes in. I’ve been binge-watching TikTok and YouTube, absorbing every bit of wisdom from seasoned parent travelers. The TSA toddler experience, travel essentials, you name it. One intriguing recommendation is a travel trolley for the car seat, allowing you to take it on the plane. Add to that an inflatable footrest and a Bluetooth beanie among other hosts of things people recommend – sounds like we’re traveling in 2023!

I must admit, some of these gadgets are pricier than expected. I’m in two minds – are they genuine life-savers or just hyped-up accessories? We’re still deciding on some of the recommended stuff. The main thing for me is safety followed by comfort for my son.

As far as the planned things to do here is the goal since we are traveling in November:
